Japanese design studio Nendo has paid tribute for the 70th anniversary of Abe Kogyo, a door manufacturer, by creating this super fun series of 7 doors as you’ve never seen them before. Each variation has taken inspiration from a technique or experience of the company, and the final designs are interesting adaptations on a traditional door. The seven variations are: Hang – a magnetic door which can be used as a storage device by attaching different accessories to it; Baby – a two-in-one door for a parent and child, inspired by Abe Kogyo’s experience with fittings for schools; Lamp – a door with a lighting fixture, Slide – a door with sliding panels which let light or air pass through, or can act as a window between rooms; Kumiko – a door with a hint of a traditional Japanese technique called kumiko which creates lattices out of wood without the use of nails, and takes advantage of Abe Kogyo’s skills in intricate work of this kind; Wall – a door which almost blends into the wall behind it and features picture frames and shelving; and Corner – our personal favourite, which allows you to go into and out of the corner of a room.
