We do love an unusual initiative, and LATA 65 really is a brilliant one. The Lisbon non profit organisation’s aim is to teach the art of graffiti… but this club is just for seniors. In a series of workshops run by well-known street artists, older citizens of the Portuguese capital are taught about the history of street art, and then even learn how to express themselves through the art of graffiti, creating stencils and tags of their own. The initiative is breaking down barriers by involving an unlikely group of people in an activity which is sometimes stigmatised, and best of all, after learning the ropes, the participants help to brighten up the more run-down parts of the city with their artwork.
