Nina Levy is no ordinary Brooklyn mom – she’s decidedly more dedicated to exciting lunch boxes than your average parent. Every evening, Levy uses special markers on paper napkins to give her sons a surprise when they open their lunch boxes. She tries to include references to things her sons (8 and 12) love at the time, or are learning about in school, although she also takes (sometimes outrageous) requests from her very demanding boys, too. The drawings started as simplistic doodles with a Sharpie to help her young son get the right kind of attention at nursery, but quickly progressed to being truly incredible works of art, which one of her sons considers too collectible to use for their real purpose, claiming “oh, I only use the napkin to get attention, I just wipe my hands on my clothes”. Unsurprisingly, Nina’s day job is as a sculptor and artist, so it’s no wonder her designs are so impressive.
You can look at the progression of her napkin art here, but we warn you it’ll make you jealous of her kids!
