A traditional object like the deck of cards, whose iconography has remained almost unchanged over the centuries, becomes the tool to celebrate the overcoming of the obsolete concept of love.
Mahdieh Farhadkiaei is a young artist from Tehran (Iran) and works as an illustrator for advertising and fashion.
She is very engaged in social battles, especially those concerning her country. In this period she is working on a protest project in favor of overcoming stereotypes about gender roles.
“What I would like to convey is that the classification of sentimental relationships by society must not determine how people should or should fall in love .”
Based on the classic playing card designs, the series deals with themes of love and betrayal in a playful and completely original way.
With superb attention to detail and beautifully elegant lines, each card really does tell a story.
