Japanese designer mariko tsujimoto has created the ‘pop up furniture’ series to jump out of a book using traditional origami methods. the work was originally developed for the ‘kokuyo design award competition’ under the theme ‘more than just notebooks’, with the items pressed down and closed away into their famous ‘campus’ folders, making them easily transportable and convenient for carrying. origami typically transforms flat paper surfaces into volumetric objects, and the project is an adaptation of this cultural concept. the pop-up books come in four different colors and offer an interactive experience, as though a story has come to life.
