These smart watches really are smart. Blocks have recently presented prototypes of their modular wearables, which use an open platform system which means their watches can be customised as much as you could possibly want. Each block has a different purpose, and you can build your watch based on the features which you need. Keen sportsman? Put on an infrared heart rate monitor. Shopaholic? Add a Paypal payment block. The smart watches will run on Android and will also be compatible with Windows mobiles. The developers plan to have a ‘blockstore’, so that companies can create blocks much like they now develop apps. The concept is certainly interesting, but we’ll have to wait and see if it catches on.
