Czech Republic-based artist Filip Hodas shares the world of pop culture icons in an unusual way.
The icons of pop culture he presents are cartoon characters, video games or popular consumerist products such as Mickey Mouse, Spongebob and Coco Cola can. His Pop Culture Dystopia series takes place in an era that looks almost post-apocalyptic.
The main goal of the series is to learn how to use Substance Painter and how to implement it in my texturing workflow. All of the textures used are made procedurally in Substance Designer with little details from Illustrator/Photoshop. But still, the work sees the use of photogrammetry assets made by the artists with Sony A7 and Agisoft Photoscan.
The skull of SpongeBob is exhibited in a museum under the name of “Spongia Bobæ”. An idea of what future historians and archaeologists could feel by studying and discovering these figures which will, at this time, be part of the past. Which one is your favorite icons of Pop culture? Let us know!
