This is truly street art like no other. French artist Julien de Casabianca has made it his mission to “free” the anonymous subjects of famous paintings currently trapped in galleries around the world. He chooses portraits which are less recognisable than the more iconic Mona Lisa or Girl With The Pearl Earring. He’s plastered these faces on walls around the world, from Riga to Los Angeles to Gdansk, in a beautiful display of alternative street art. The artist even wants to make his Outings project one which anyone can become part of, and has invited anyone to photograph the subjects of artworks in their local galleries and “liberate” them. If you’d like to see it for yourself, De Casabianca’s work will be on display at Belgium’s Musée d’Ixelles in March-April 2016. See more of the artist’s work on the Outings site or his website.
