The 8.4.1. bookcase was designed by Tom Maher and Eamon Peregrine and created by Irish company 8BY4, and is CNC cut from sheet material, in order to make assembly easy, and to minimise waste during production. The consumer can decide which materials to use, and can easily construct the shelves without glue or fixings, as the 10 interlocking components can simply be slotted together. The 3D composition offers a range of shelf heights and depths and the planks are offset to create an interesting shape. This bookcase uses just one 8×4 sheet of material, but extra material would allow the user to expand the shelf in any direction.
