Existing somewhere between a still camera and a video camera is the OTTO, a fun “hackable GIF camera”. Created by the Next Thing Co., this bright blue gadget is powered by Raspberry Pi and customizable.
To make a GIF, simply turn a rotating crank that pops up from its top—it would then send the GIF over to your smartphone, making it easy for you to share it on social media and with friends. In addition to GIFs, it is also able to produce “time lapses, impromptu photo booths and something brand new”.
OTTO also comes with a large library of modes that you can select from—for instance, you may choose to put sunglasses on everyone in the picture or turn your image into a pixelated modern art piece.
This fun camera has just launched a campaign on Kickstarter—you can find out more about how it works here, or pledge for it to be among the firsts to receive it. While the early bird units are already all gone, you can still get your hands on an OTTO for US$199.
