These sneakers may look normal, but they in fact have an upper construction made from ocean waste plastic and illegal deep sea fishing net collected by the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. The shoes were created by adidas, in collaboration with Parley for the Oceans, an organisation which promotes conservation of the oceans. These particular shoes are just a concept for now, but they go to show that sustainability and fashion can live side by side and pave the way for other brands to incorporate waste materials into their designs. Adidas will be increasing the amount of recycled plastic it uses to create footwear early next year.
