In 100 Colors, French architect and designer Emmanuelle Moureaux designed a large and colorful rainbow floating overhead. Created for the Shinjuki Creators Festa 2013, the piece incorporates 840 sheets of paper in one hundred different shades. The perfectly arranged rows form a multicolored display that shifts from one hue to the next in gradating sections.
Moureaux uses color as three-dimensional elements to actually redefine a space, focusing on architecture, interior spaces, furniture, and products to design happy environments filled with positive energy. The Japan-based artist says, “When I first arrived in Tokyo, I was fully fascinated by the colors overflowing on the street. The flood of various colors pervaded the street built up a complex depth and intensity in the space. these indelible experiences of colors and layers in Tokyo were the inspiration and essence of my design concept of “shikiri,” which means dividing (creating) space with colors.”
