Unique chandeliers from reclaimed bike parts | Facaro

We think these chandeliers by LA-based artist Carolina (Caro) Fontana Alzaga – aka FACARO – are simply spectacular. At a distance, they seem like the traditional chandeliers you might find in a stately home, but as you get closer, you come to realise that they are something much more unique. Caro is fascinated by weathered textures and otherwise overlooked materials, and her CONNECT Series uses parts from discarded bicycles from shops in the LA area and transforms them into stunning pieces, to add a touch of industrial-style class to interiors. The idea behind the project is to explore the third phase of a material’s life – first it has an original function, then becomes discarded, and then, with the help of someone like Caro, it can become something new altogether. This not only gives new life to some people’s junk, but also sends out an important message about sustainability. And if you were wondering, Caro promises these chandeliers aren’t significantly heavier than traditional glass ones. If you’d like one, they’re hand-made to order, and you can contact Carolina through her website.
