A plain white page may not sound like the most exciting thing, but Danish artist Peter Callesen, who has exhibited all over Europe and in the USA, manages to transform a simple white sheet into all manner of delicate and intricate 3D artworks. There’s a fragile and at times even eerie feel to his work, which is sometimes coloured, sometimes all white, and ranges in size from delicate hummingbirds popping off an A4 page to installations taking up a whole room. He often draws his inspiration from the fairytale world, walking a line between dream and reality. Callesen not only explores the relationship between 2D and 3D forms, but also plays with negative spaces in his art. A white sheet of paper is a familiar sight in our everyday life, but Callesen manages to transform this into sculptures which quite literally jump off the page. A large selection of his work can be found on his website.
