Design Miami/ 2014 marked a decade of the American design fair, which brings together influential collectors, gallerists, designers, curators and critics from around the globe every year. The event takes place alongside Art Basel fairs in Miami each December and in Basel, Switzerland every June.
This edition paid tribute to the evolution of the collectible design market, and brought together 35 leading design galleries from around the world to present stunning and unique exhibitions. 11 of these galleries participated in the very first edition of Design Miami/ and were back for the 10th anniversary, and were joined by exciting new design talents from around the globe, and the recipient of this year’s Design Commission, Minneapolis-based designer Jonathan Meuecke. There was a particular focus on US design this year, including ceramic work by Adam Silverman and a hint of the design heritage of the Pacific Northwest through a Collectors lounge designed by Seattle architects Olson+Kundig. There were lots of special commissions too, including commissioned works by Finnish-born designer Janne Kyttanen, presented by Galerie VIVID. This year’s fair included more than a touch of bronze too, from jewellery to decorative works, furniture and lighting, like the work of architect Vincenzo de Cotiis, presented by the Carwan Gallery.
