Coffee Cup Art | Miguel Cardona

Based in San Francisco, designer professor and illustrator Miguel Cardona started drawing on an unlikely medium, the paper coffee cup, last year—by now, he has created an impressive collection of beautifully illustrated take-away cups. The contours of the paper cup means that he had to make his illustrations completely freehand—it also means that he does not need a table to make his art, and can work on this project everywhere.

In an interview with Coolhunting, Cardona states that he is “a total 15-year-old boy” when it comes to his art sometimes, which explains why skulls, robots and monsters feature heavily in his paper cup series. The talented artist has also made illustration of famous pop culture characters and icons, such as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Walter White of Breaking Bad and Grumpy Cat.

To contribute to a good cause, he is now selling his paper cup art at Café Sophie for US$20 each and donating all proceeds to Project Night Night, to help donate baby blankets, books and toys to children in homeless shelters.
