We’ve already brought you John Lewis’ heartwarming Christmas advert featuring Monty the penguin, and now we have another festive ad to show you.
The unexpected competition for John Lewis this year seems to be Sainsbury’s supermarket’s advertisement, which has chosen to represent the message of ‘Christmas is for sharing’ through a representation of the true story of the 1914 Christmas truce on the battleground during the First World War. The ad features hardly any product placement and was sensitively filmed on an authentic set in Suffolk, England in partnership with the British Legion, who will take 50% of the proceeds from the chocolate bar, featured in the advert, which is on sale now in stores.
The advert has attracted both outstanding praise and harsh criticism for its wartime-themed Christmas message. We’ll leave it up to you to decide where you stand.
