This ongoing research project is the work of British multi-disciplinary designer Michael Pecirno, who has extensively researched various aspects of the geography of the United States in order to create single-subject maps dedicated to individual aspects of the country’s landscape. The maps, which are accurate for the year 2014, show the patterns of water, urbanism, shrub, grass, corn, and deciduous or evergreen trees over 48 of the 50 US states. The designer’s aim with this project was to help people understand our landscape in a different way, current maps, he says, are simply either political or physical. You can buy prints of each of the maps on Pecirno’s site.
