These incredibly detailed works of art have been created by Chris Maynard, artist and member of Artists for Conservation, who has been making feather art since he was 12 years old but who only started showing his work in 2010. Maynard carves each piece from ‘recycled’ feathers which have been naturally shed by the birds, and given to him by zoos and aviaries. The feathers, which are from all kinds of birds from around the globe, are manipulated using instruments such as eye surgery scissors, forceps and magnifying glasses, and the results are stunningly detailed and unique shadow boxes.
