When you think of a portrait of an artist, you probably imagine his or her face, but in some ways looking at their paint palettes can be equally revealing. Photographer Matthias Schaller‘s “indirect portrait” series Das Meisterstück (The Masterpiece) shows the personalities of over seventy well known artists from the 19th and 20th century through their paint palettes. It’s amazing what you can interpret about an artist’s personality just by looking at how they use their materials. Take a look at some of Schaller’s photos below.
