Life in Color is a new photography book released by National Geographic that is filled with 375 striking images highlighting spectacular hues found in the world. With a wide spectrum of rich colors to represent, the book features chapters designated to each color including blue, orange, green, yellow, purple and red. Additionally, there are subsections covering brown, black, white, silver, gold, and “unseen color” which is described as colors that are “not seen with the naked eye, such as laser, the universe, and microscopic images.”
Browsing through a selection of the photographs chosen, it becomes increasingly clear that there is a certain unspoken energy that epitomizes the essence of each color. The more densely saturated the image is with one color, the greater that respective feeling is. There’s an invigorating passion that leaps off a red image and infects the viewer with its loud energy. Alternatively, photos with greater tones of white wash a sense of calm and peacefulness over their observers. Regardless of color, though, this collection of visually stimulating images are sure to evoke some sort of emotional response.
