These fun lamps are the result of a social project developed by Curro Claret in collaboration with the Arrels Foundation. The Barcelona-based designer’s initiative involves the participation of disadvantaged people in creating the pieces of design, which are made with reclaimed materials. The idea was not to use the disadvantaged people as labour, but they were involved throughout the design and manufacturing process, giving them the opportunity to feel valued and to be involved in a creative project, helping them to get back on their feet. Now, Metalarte has developed the collection titled ‘Shoelaces’, which are made from reclaimed (you guessed it) shoelaces, and will go on sale in January. They will be sold for their own beauty, and the social aspect will not be widely advertised.
