Irma Gruenholz was born in Madrid, she studied Graphic Design and has worked as art director for an adv agency after becoming a freelance illustrator. Her nowadays activity is creating hand sculpted illustrations for books, magazines, advs and marketing materials.
She also works with pencils and colours, ma her preferred material is the one used for her real-life models: mainly clay, combined with other materials like wood or textiles to give further depth to her work. She creates every model and then also adds a sculpted backdrop to make the characters come to life in their magic world. After a precise work of illumination, she finally photographs her work in their fantastic world to obtain a these illustrations halfway between drawing and reality.
