There are certain luxuries that are simply not available for many school children in India. One example is a desk. Without a desk to write on, they are forced to sit and write on hard floors. Other than being uncomfortable, sitting on the floor with their backs hunched also leads to several health problems such as bad eyesight and posture. To tackle the problem, New Bombay-based not-for-profit organization Aarambh has designed an eco-friendly portable desk that also doubles as a book bag for the children. Made from discarded cardboard, it features a stencil design that can be conveniently folded into a briefcase-like school bag for the children to keep their books and belongings.
