Movie Shots by Alex Prager

11.04.2012 | Events, Photo

The photographer – and more recently director – Alex Prager was born in Los Angeles in 1979. He discovered his passion almost by accident, visiting an exhibition of William Eggleston that gives the impetus to embark on a path of self-taught in photography. He thus began to take his photos everywhere and to attack them in beauty salons as the walls of the bars: and now, after years of various exhibitions, publicity – he shot a short film for Mercedes Benz – publications and was able to explain even to the MOMA New York.

Alex fact, thanks to a style inspired by images ’50s and ’60s and moods hitchcokiane and Fellini, is gradually establishing itself in the California art scene and beyond. His subjects are mostly women, desperate, mysterious, free, open-minded, that seem to come straight from a movie set-style pulp, or from glossy fashion magazines, with extravagant hair and independence typical of those years. All shots trying to provoke strong emotions in the audience even less “film lover”, especially interesting for what they do not show.

The care taken to rebuild the looks and details of time, expressed in a face with makeup, or even in retro red eyes filled with tears, he knows so awaken the viewer’s fantasy fiction, which is found to interact with the works, rebuilding always a first and an after. For those who want to try it live, from April 5 to May 1 some of his shots are exposed to the PH-Neutral Photography Fine Art of Forte dei Marmi.
